Is a doula the same thing as a midwife?

No, a doula is not the same thing as a midwife; the role of a doula focuses on the educational information, resources, emotional support, and physical presence expectant parents may be looking for during pregnancy, labor and birth, and the postpartum time. Doula support is in addition to, and separate from, the care provided to a birthing person by their midwife or doctor. Doulas do not provide medical care or perform medical tasks.
